Just a quick reminder — in case you were waiting to make your soup, now’s the time! The 2nd Annual International Soup Swap Day is Wednesday, January 23, and the uvScene is representing the Upper Valley with our Soup Swap at the Main Street Museum in White River Junction at 5:30pm (swapping begins at 6). Big things to remember: make 6 quarts of soup and bring them (preferably frozen) to swap!
Who’s swapping? Got your recipes? Talk it up on uvmeet at the new, improved thread here.
More information can be found at the earlier post and at soupswap.com! See you on Wednesday!

From Pat at the UV Localvores group:
What a happy coincidence that Seasons Restaurant and Marketplace will be opening in Enfield, NH just in time for our September Localvore Challenge. The owner/chefs are Jennifer and Ron McPhall and their restaurant and prepared food marketplace are focusing on local, seasonal foods. (They will be on Main St. in the space formerly known as Twigs and Steccos). When asked if they could provide 100-mile diet specials for our September Challenge, this is how they responded:
“We would like to offer a daily and nightly special localvore meal. Also, a major part of our concept for the Marketplace side of Season’s is pre-prepped meal to go. Meaning we prep, package, and provide cooking instructions for the meals. We would like to offer a localvore meal daily this way as well. Once our doors are open we will be buying and preserving local produce to use throughout the winter, such as basil and cheese for pesto (nut free). Various vegetables and dried herbs as well. Our goal is to offer a locavore meal daily throughout the winter. We will soon be sending a list of other restaurants which have pledged support during our September Challenge . . . as well as info on our kick-off event Friday, August 31st. Stay tuned!”
Is anyone going to be trying out the localvore challenge during September?

Flavors of the Valley is coming up, so while you are eating, visiting, and learning about food in the UV, consider a CSA subscription. Community Supported Agriculture is one of the easiest and tastiest ways to support local farmers, eat the freshest organic produce around, and try new vegetables all season long. Visit Vital Communities for their easy to navigate guide to local foods. We subscribed again this year to Cedar Circle Farm in E. Thetford. You pay up front and then pick up a big basket of whatever the field provided that week. Recipes come with each week’s pick up and now I am a kohlrabi and swiss chard fan.
